Perry Hall Teacher Investigated for 'Inappropriate Relationship' With Girl

A Perry Hall High School teacher being investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student was attacked by the girl’s father – wielding a baseball bat – after the teacher turned up at the family’s house, authorities said.

Baltimore County Police were contacted about 3 a.m. Wednesday by the mother of the Perry Hall High School student. The parent was concerned about numerous text messages sent between the girl and one of her teachers, a 42-year-old man.

An officer viewed several dozen texts and found that they described an emotional relationship that seemed inappropriate for a teacher and student, the department said. While police did not find that a crime had been committed, the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit continues to investigate.

Then at 9:45 a.m., police were called to the girl's home after the teacher who had sent the texts reportedly showed up at the family house without permission, saying he wanted to talk. The teen's father told the teacher to leave, but the teacher refused. The father then struck the teacher with a baseball bat, police say. 

The teacher suffered minor injuries and was told he could file an assault complaint against the father. But, the teacher said he did not wish to pursue charges.

The officer also told the girl's family how to apply for a protective order from the teacher.

The name of the teacher will not be released because he has not been charged with a crime police said. The name of the girl and her parents will not be released because the Crimes Against Children Unit continues to investigate.
