Perry Hall Zoning Agreement to Limit Development

Councilman David Marks announces preservation effort involving land around St. Joseph Church.

PERRY HALL, MD – Baltimore County and St. Joseph Church have agreed to rezone a piece of land in Perry Hall that will allow for preservation and restrict development, Councilman David Marks announced recently.

Marks said he was recommending the 40-acre St. Joseph Church property be downzoned to the maximum allowed for private land, which is one house per acre. In addition, he is proposing 2 acres of public, Baltimore County-owned land adjacent to the wooded area and 9 acres of land from the homeowners association be put into a Neighborhood Commons zoning designation.

"This rezoning will preserve the wooded property that backs up to Ridgelys Choice Drive, and lighten any future development on any part of the church property, which covers 40 acres," Marks said. "I would like to thank St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church for supporting this downzoning, and thank the church for its continued support our community."

The church will also get access to more frontage so it can increase visibility of its sign.

"This arrangement will preserve the wooded area at and near the church campus," Monsignor Kevin Schenning said. "And it will help our congregation better serve and educate the community about important programs."
