Police: String of Vehicle-Related Thefts in Seven Courts Area

In one incident in Perry Hall, police said the suspect stole vehicle, then used the garage door opener to burglarize the victim's home.

Criminals have been targeting Perry Hall residents’ vehicles, according to a crime trend report from police.

The Baltimore County Police Department reported that there have been a string of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in the past week.

Police said all incidents occurred during the overnight hours between July 30 and Aug. 5 in the Perry Hall and Seven Courts Drive areas.

Four vehicles have been stolen, police reported.

In one case, two vehicles were stolen from one person’s driveway, according to police.

In another case, police said the suspect took a car and used the garage door opener to get into and burglarize the victim’s home. A laptop, iPad, television, cash, tools and fishing equipment were stolen, police reported.

There have been eight cases of thefts from vehicles in the Perry Hall and Seven Courts Drive areas since July 30, according to police.

Three people suspected in the incidents were seen standing near a vehicle that had been rummaged through, and they left when someone approached them, according to police. One of them was later seen in a stolen vehicle, police reported.

The Baltimore County Police Department offers these tips for keeping your vehicle protected:

  • Close windows when leaving vehicle.
  • Lock doors.
  • On convertibles, do not leave the top down. Cell phones, GPS units and other items are easily stolen when the top is down, police note.

“Important papers such as insurance and vehicle registration information often found in the glove compartment are also at risk of being stolen. This paperwork could help a thief gain personal data that might lead to identity theft. Last but not least, the vehicle can be stolen,” according to police.
