Prisoner Transport Van Involved In Crash, 9 Prisoners Injured
Maryland State Police are investigating the crash that happened Monday morning on southbound Interstate 95.
BALTIMORE, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a prisoner transport van and another vehicle. Nine prisoners were injured in the Monday-morning crash on southbound Interstate 95, all of whom were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to police, the prisoners were being transported from Tennessee by a private transportation company. At approximately 8 a.m., the van was rear-ended by a passenger at the 63.9 mile marker in Baltimore County. Police said they believe all nine passengers were secured in the van when the accident occurred.
Seven of the prisoners were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. The other two prisoners were transported by ambulance to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. All nine prisoners remain under police watch.

Two correctional officers in the van were uninjured. The person driving the passenger vehicle was not identified. Police said charges are pending depending on the outcome of the investigation.
