Authorities alerted citizens to police presence in area off Franklin Square Drive.

A community was on alert Tuesday morning as Baltimore County police served a warrant south of Nottingham where authorities said the tactical team was called in as a precaution.

After 7 a.m. on Tuesday, police attempted to serve a warrant in the 5000 block of Leasdale Road to a man wanted for assault, according to a report from the Baltimore County Police Department.

Adrian Reed Akins, 37, of the 5000 block of Leasdale Road, is charged with first and second-degree assault in connection with a Jan. 12 altercation in Middle River on Eastern Boulevard at Kingston Road, police said.

When officials knocked on the door of Akins’ home, they could tell someone was home but nobody answered, according to the report from police.

At 8:31 a.m., the Baltimore County Police Department advised citizens to avoid the area as officers searched for a wanted person. Police had “requested appropriate resources to the area of Leasdale Road to ensure the safety of the community,” public safety officials said.

The tactical unit was called in to assist, according to police.

By 9:01 a.m., police said the person was taken into custody. Akins had come out of the home and surrendered on his own just before 9 a.m., police reported.

After authorities served him with the arrest warrant, Akins was taken to the White Marsh precinct for processing and was being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center, where bail was set at $10,000, according to police.
