PERRY HALL, MD — Baltimore County leaders are touring Perry Hall for what they are calling a public safety community walk Thursday. Community members are invited to attend and share their concerns about issues in the area.

Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt, County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Councilman David Marks and key agency directors will participate, according to the county executive's office.

"County government officials will walk the community with local leaders to identify pressing public safety and quality of life issues and demonstrate commitment to solving problems in collaboration with community stakeholders," according to a statement from the county executive's office.

The idea is to bring government and a "full suite of services" to the people, Olszewski said during a walk in October in Milford Mill, stating: "Public safety is certainly part of the story, but we are doing this because we believe in taking our government to you."

Personnel from permitting and inspections, economic development and health and human services were in attendance for that walk. "We take a holistic approach" to the well-being of citizens, Olszewski said.

During the walk, residents can talk with county officials about issues that concern them or that they want addressed in their community.

"What will happen after today's walk is equally important," Hyatt said after the walk in Milford Mill. According to the police chief, the agencies on the walk follow up on issues that surface.

The first of these community public safety walks was in Essex after a July double homicide, according to WJZ, which said the county executive announced then that he was planning to conduct similar walks around the county. There was reportedly another last week in Dundalk.

The public safety community walk will take place at 3:30 p.m. outside the Seven Oaks Senior Center, 9210 Seven Courts Drive, Nottingham, MD 21236.
