Visitation For Officer Amy Caprio Draws Hundreds To Perry Hall

The viewing for Officer Amy Caprio led to hours of road closures as mourners paid their respects in Baltimore County.

PERRY HALL, MD — Mourners lined up by the hundreds at Schimunek Funeral Home Thursday to pay their respects to Officer Amy Caprio, the officer who died in the line of duty this week. The viewing led to a 10-hour closure of Belair Road near the funeral home.

Caprio's family held a private viewing from 1 to 2 p.m, then received visitors from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Schimunek Funeral Home at 9705 Belair Road.

Belair Road was closed from Chapel Road to Honeygo Boulevard from noon to 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 24.

Officer Caprio's funeral service will be on Friday, May 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Mountain Christian Church New Life Center at 1802 Mountain Road in Joppa. She will be laid to rest at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at 200 East Padonia Road in Timonium.

The medical examiner ruled Caprio's death a homicide from traumatic injuries after she was hit by an SUV, according to police.

Authorities said she was responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Linwen Way in Perry Hall, where burglaries were also reported on Monday, May 21.

Four Baltimore teens have been charged in her death.

Baltimore County officials say Caprio is the first female officer killed in the line of duty in the Baltimore Police Department's 144-year history.

The 29-year-old officer had been with the department just shy of four years.

Tributes have cropped up in a show of support for the fallen officer.
