Sawdust Sparks Fire At Lumber Company In White Marsh: Official

Firefighters handled a small fire on Philadelphia Road Friday night, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

WHITE MARSH, MD — A small fire broke out at a lumber business in White Marsh Friday night, according to Baltimore County fire officials. It was traced to sawdust, authorities said.

Crews were called to the 10700 block of Philadelphia Road before 5:10 p.m., where they found a small fire on the ground level.

Sawdust had caught fire near a boiler, Baltimore County Fire Specialist Nicholas Tyson told Patch.

"It was more smoke than anything," Tyson said. "They put it out pretty quick."

A hopper of sawdust had ignited, according to the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, which said Route 7 was briefly closed between Ebenezer Road and MD 43 during the response.

Since sprinklers had gone off in the building, officials said firefighters ensured all smoldering sawdust had been saturated and checked the area for hot spots before leaving.

By 5:30 p.m., Tyson said crews had cleared the scene.

Nobody was injured, according to Tyson, who said there was no damage estimate available.
