Two Ramps on Northeastern Beltway to Close for 5 Nights

Detours will be in effect so crews can reconstruct interchanges on I-95, I-695.

Transportation officials will be closing a couple of ramps this week in northeastern Baltimore County to improve the Interstate 95/Interstate 695 interchange.

Closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Sunday, Nov. 8, to Thursday, Nov. 12, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. The project is weather-permitting.

These ramps will be closed during that time period:

  • I-95 north to I-695 west
  • I-695 west to northbound US 1/Belair Road

Drivers on I-95 north trying to go west on I-695 will take I-695 east instead and be detoured onto the exit for US 40, then back around to I-695 west.

Those trying to get to northbound Belair Road from the outer loop of the beltway will have to take the southbound exit for US 1 then I-695 east to the exit for US 1 north, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Improving the interchanges at I-95 and I-695 is part of the I-95 express lane project, the authority reports.

Transportation officials say that toll dollars are funding the reconstruction/realignment of I-695 from US 1 to MD 7.

The improvements are anticipated to be complete by summer 2016.
