Weis Opens in Carney

CARNEY, MD — There's a new Weis in the area. Actually, there are five.

After Mars stores in Carney, Essex, Arbutus and two in Dundalk shuttered on Friday, July 29, they reopened as Weis supermarkets at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4.

“We are excited to steadily grow within Baltimore County and will make this transition as seamless as possible for the community and our new associates,” Weis Markets’ Chief Operating Officer Kurt Schertle said in a statement. “Our goal is continuity; we will continue to offer a wide variety of local products carried in Mars stores."

Products will not be the only sense of familiarity for customers, he added: "We are also thrilled that more than 500 Mars associates will join our Weis Markets family."

Weis has doubled its reach in the Baltimore County, now operating nine stores here. There is a Weis in Perry Hall, approximately 5 miles from the Carney store, at 9400 Scott Moore Way.
