The partial government shutdown is the longest in U.S. history. The state comptroller estimates that 90,000 Marylanders are either furloughed or working without pay during the government shutdown.

The partial federal government shutdown started on Friday, Dec. 21, as President Donald Trump and Congress battled over funding for a border wall with Mexico. Thousands of workers felt the pinch on Jan. 11 when they did not get paid for the first time since the shutdown began, and Friday, Jan. 25, would be the second missed paycheck for impacted employees.
