Perry Hall Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Becky Shasha

  • Age: 17
  • School/Church: ,
  • Accomplishments: Born in the East African country of Cameroon, Becky Shasha is active in the Bui Family Union, an organization that works to preserve Cameroonian culture. Through BFU, she has volunteered as a youth director and danced with the Tikari Girls Ensemble. She's also active in several student organizations. Shasha serves as president of the Black Student Union, a leader in the French Honor Society, captain of the girls varsity tennis team, manager of the boys varsity and junior varsity basketball teams and a member of Student Council and the Step Squad. Shasha's grades and test scores have also qualified her as a finalist for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship.
  • Key to Success: "It takes commitment and determination. I'm always determined to finish everything I start," Shasha says. "Because I've moved around so much, I feel like I can better see and understand the perspectives of others. I'm more culturally aware of others." Her accomplishments wouldn't be possible without her family, she says: "My family has always supported everything I do."
