15 Displaced in Perryville Blaze: Fire Marshal

The fire spread across multiple row houses, the Maryland fire marshal reported.

A fire that began in a bathroom Monday morning in Perryville spread to five row houses and caused approximately $200,000 in damage, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported.

Before 5 a.m., a smoke alarm sounded in the 700 block of Susquehanna Avenue, alerting residents to the situation.

Nearly 50 firefighters from Perryville, Port Deposit, Rising Sun, Perry Point, North East, Havre de Grace and Aberdeen helped extinguish the blaze, which affected five row houses in a 10-unit complex, the report said.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, which took approximately an hour and a half to bring under control, according to the fire marshal.

Fire had spread into the attic area, the fire marshal reported.

Preliminarily, authorities estimated there was $200,000 in damage.

Approximately 15 people were displaced as a result of the fire in the 700 block of Susquehanna Avenue; they were receiving assistance from Red Cross, the report said.
