2 Charged after Marina Park Traffic Stop, Scuffle

Two Pennsylvania residents were charged after a traffic stop in Port Deposit that ended with one on the ground with a deputy, according to the Cecil County Sheriff's Office.

At 10 p.m. on June 25, police said a deputy was running radar on S. Main Street in Port Deposit near Marina Park when he saw a 2010 black Dodge Avenger traveling northbound, crossing the center line and failing to slow down at the curve.

The officer stopped the vehicle, according to the report, and noticed the smell of alcohol. He conducted field sobriety tests, and the 20-year-old driver from Pennsylvania was charged with DUI.

Police said the front-seat passenger, a 22-year-old from Pennsylvania, repeatedly interrupted the interview between the deputy and the driver.

After the deputy reportedly saw the passenger push a knife under the seat, the officer ordered the man to leave the car.

The passenger got out of the vehicle and refused a pat-down search, police said. The officer wrestled the passenger to the ground and arrested him for obstructing and hindering and resisting arrest, according to the Cecil County Sheriff's Office.
