Boys & Girls Clubs Celebrates Youth of Cecil County

Cecil youth showcased at annual dinner

NORTH EAST, Md.—The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties applauded the youth of Cecil County at their Annual Cecil County Youth Celebration Dinner at the Chesapeake Ballroom in North Easton Wednesday, May 16. The success of this event along with other fundraising efforts will enable to organization to continue to provide services to youth of the region through their core programming: character and leadership development, health and life skills; education and career development; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation.

“We are continually stunned and grateful for the support we receive from our community,” says Derek DeWitt, Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties’ executive director. “We thank all of our attendees, parents and sponsors for rallying together for a common purpose: brighter futures for the youth of Cecil County.”

Attendees were provided a catered dinner by Steak & Main – Steakhouse & Sushi Bar based in North East and were delighted by a variety of performances and addresses by Cecil County’s standout young people.

One in particular was an inspiring speech by Trinity Vasquez, age 14, of the Elkton Boys & Girls Club, who was named Youth of the Month for her respectful, easy-going and optimistic attitude as well as her empathetic and truly uplifting demeanor. During her time at the podium, Trinity discussed the impact the Club programs have had on her role as a future leader. She noted that her experiences with the Clubs enabled her to act as a mentor to the younger Club members by assisting them with homework, tutoring and helping to lead projects.

When asked to describe Trinity, Angela Teague, former site coordinator of the Elkton Boys & Girls Club location commented, “When Trinity came to us she had just suffered a tragic loss in her family, which held her back from making new friends. Trinity has persevered, though, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see her overcome some of her biggest hurdles, and bond in some way with every single child here. She has a tremendous ability to laugh at her own mistakes and to make others feel that they can laugh, too – something that is a true testament to her character.”
