Cecil College baseball players receive post-season honors

NORTH EAST, Md.– The Cecil College baseball season wrapped up with two members receiving post-season honors. Sophomore outfielder Jaily Paredes was selected to the second team by the All-Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference as well as by the NJCAA’s Region XX, Division II. Also honored was sophomore outfielder Joseph Munoz with an honorable mention by the NJCAA’s Region XX, Division II.

This is the second consecutive year Paredes (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / Liceo Matias Ramon Mella School) was named to the NJCAA’s Region XX, Division II second team. At the plate, Paredes accumulated a .307 batting average for the Seahawks, that included 31 hits of which eight were home runs. This led Cecil College in long-ball hitting as Paredes drove in 30 runs during 37 games. In addition to recording 39 “put outs” and 11 assists from right field, Paredes also pitched 34 innings to strike out 56 batters.

Munoz (York, Pa. / Dallastown Area High School)boasted the highest batting average the Seahawks with.343 that was accumulated with 37 hits. His trips to the plate led to nine doubles and eight stolen bases in 38 games played during his sophomore season. Munoz recorded 66 “put outs” and three assists while only committing one error for a .958 fielding percentage.

The Cecil College baseball team finished the 2019 season with a 7-19 record in Maryland JUCO and with an 8-30-1 overall record.

Paredes is working toward an associate degree in general studies while Munoz is pursuing an associated degree in criminal justice.
