Elkton, MD: Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger and Cecil County Sheriff Scott Adams have announced the completion of the County’s 2021 – 2025 Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). The new plan replaces an earlier version which covered the 2018 – 2020 timeframe.
The new SHSP was a joint effort between Cecil County Government (CCG), the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services (DES), and the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). It was developed by a committee comprised of representatives from various CCG departments, CCSO, and other local, state, regional, and federal agencies. The committee held a virtual public meeting in March 2021 to solicit input from members of the public; written comments from the public were accepted as well.
The County’s SHSP is intended to complement the State of Maryland’s state-level plan, and outlines actions to be taken to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle crashes, including those involving bicyclists and pedestrians, which occur on roadways in Cecil County. The plan lists 18 action items, organized into three different categories – Engineering; Enforcement; and Emergency Medical Services – which are intended to improve safety on roadways in Cecil County. The ultimate goal is to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities entirely.
The 2021 – 2025 Strategic Highway Safety Plan is available on the County website at: https://www.ccgov.org/about-us/strategic-highway-safety-plan.
