Maryland Fire Marshal: Perryville Condo Blaze Accidental

The fire on a deck in Owens Landing was reported around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

UPDATE (5 p.m.)—First responders put out a fire at a Perryville condominium complex Tuesday morning, which the Maryland State Fire Marshal later ruled was accidental.

A neighbor reported the blaze in the unit block of Owens Landing at 9:59 a.m., according to the fire marshal.

No one was injured, and the fire was contained to a deck at the Owens Landing condo, Captain Richie Huffstutler of the Perryville Fire Company said.

There was $5,000 in damage as a result of the fire, which took approximately ten minutes to bring under control, according to the fire marshal.

In addition to the Perryville Fire Company, crews from Perry Point, Port Deposit and the Susquehanna Hose Company responded, the fire marshal reported; a total of 30 firefighters responded.

According to the fire marshal, the cause of the blaze was discarded smoking material.
