Former Perryville Official Hired as County Administrator in VA

John Barkley was the Perryville town administrator from 1994 to 1998.

A former Perryville town administrator is working at the county level in Virginia, according to Daily Progress. 

John Barkley, 48, who was town administrator in Perryville from 1994 to 1998, has just been hired as county administrator in Greene County, VADaily Progress reported. 

Among other accomplishments, Barkley handled the demolition of the dilapidated Firestone plant near Perryville Community Park in 1996 during his tenure, according to The Baltimore Sun.

After serving in Perryville, Barkley took on other roles in local government. He worked for the Baltimore Metropolitan Council as the director of finance, was city administrative officer in New Carrollton, was town manager for Colonial Beach, VA, and was town administrator in Round Hill, VA.

Barkley's role in Greene County will be both “advisory and executive,” according to the county’s website. Daily Progress reports the salary is $105,000.
