The National Weather Service has placed Cecil County and most of Maryland under a tornado watch until 5 p.m. Monday.
The weather service issued the alert at 9 a.m. for the following areas: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, Talbot and Washington counties, in addition to Baltimore City.
A tornado watch means that weather conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. Residents should be alert and prepare for severe weather.
Cecil County is also under a coastal flood advisory, which indicates that low-lying areas may be prone to flooding due to winds and tides.
A small craft advisory is also in effect for all Maryland waters, the National Weather Service reported.
