Motorcyclist Injured, Hospitalized in Route 222 Crash in Perryville

The crash occurred Sunday afternoon at Cedar Corner Road.

A crash Sunday afternoon on MD Route 222 threw a 30-year-old Parkville motorcyclist 30 feet off his Suzuki bike, resulting in injuries that required transporting him by helicopter to the hospital, the Cecil Whig reported.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the crash was reported on Route 222/Perryville Road at Cedar Corner Road.

Perryville police told The Whig that the motorcyclist, whose license had been suspended, was traveling southbound on Route 222 at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass a Cadillac as the vehicle was making a left turn, and he crashed into the Cadillac's side.

The motorcyclist was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

After several incidents around the state over the weekend, the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center was at capacity by Sunday night, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The crash in Perryville comes days after the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration announced a statewide "Share the Road" campaign aimed at increasing safety for motorcyclists.

More than 1,500 riders and passengers are injured in motorcycle crashes each year in Maryland, according to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, which said motorcycle fatalities increased by 9 percent in 2012.
