Neither Rain, Nor Sleet, Nor gloom of night

This used to be the mail man's (or women's) adage. Lots of snow here- some say too much, no mail yesterday though. No big deal though, I can survive a day without getting bills in the mailbox. Then a little more snow last night. So I was out shoveling AGAIN, when the mail lady pulled up. She said (looking at my neighbor’s mail box) “he can't put that snow” there and then looked at mine which was in the same shape, surrounded by a mountain of snow. I stated that the snow was there because the town’s plows or the town’s contractor’s plows put it there do. I have to say that even with all the snow, the cleanup job by the town was remarkable – kudos to the crews. My question is that when this type of situation arises who’s responsible for making the mail boxes accessible? It would be a lot of work for anyone to remove the amount of snow that is around my mailbox right now. But how about an elderly or handicap person who is expecting their SS check or other vital documents? Maybe there could be some way that a list could be generated- that people could put their names on so that when the situation arises (NEXT YEAR HOPEFULLY), the plows or even volunteers could help them out so their mail got properly delivered. Or maybe the person delivering the mail could hand carry it to their door. It could be published in the town paper during the winter months or through some other media.

Sincerely,

Moving to Arizona
