Perryville Police, State Troopers Offer Drug Dropoff Sites

Citizens can bring unwanted medications to the Perryville Library or JFK Barrack on April 27 for proper disposal.

Do you have extra medications that you no longer need?

No matter the circumstance, the Perryville Police Department and Maryland State Police are providing a safe way for people to get rid of unwanted medications.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, citizens can drop off their unwanted medicines at the Perryville Public Library at 500 Coudon Blvd. or at the JFK Highway Barrack at 15 Turnpike Dr.

All dropoffs are anonymous.

April 27 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, an initiative the Drug Enforcement Agency promotes as a way to curb prescription drug abuse; according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 70 percent of people who abuse prescription medications get them from family or friends.

According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, more than 5,000 sites participated in the take-back program nationwide in 2012, yielding 276 tons of medications.
