We invite all interested members of the Baltimore community to enjoy the 2015 MMAE Brother Breakfast Speakers Series over the coming months with our first Breakfast Speaker Sunday January 18th 10am at Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah Congregation. Mark Lavie, author and journalist from Israel is our guest speaker.
You can read more about him at: https://brokenspring.wordpress.com/whos-mark-lavie-2/. Ample time allotted for discussion and Q&A. Surely to be a timely discussion of Israel in the media discussing the many issues facing Israel and Jews around the world.
One of the most notable lessons from the war this summer between Israel and Hamas is that of the media bias against Israel and the role that bias plays both in Israeli foreign relations and in the relationship between Diaspora Jews and their communities. The media is not merely reporting the news; it is affecting Israel’s ability to defend itself, and it is fanning the flames of anti-Semitism around the world. Very few journalists have had the chutzpah to call out their industry for unfairly manipulating Israeli-Palestinian press coverage over the years.

Mark Lavie is one journalist who has seen firsthand how media organizations consciously distort their reports to favor their storyline pitting Big Bad Israel against the weak and sympathetic Palestinians. Mark has been a journalist covering the Middle East for over 40 years, mostly from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Cairo. He is one of those few journalists with decades of real experience in this media manipulation who has had the moral turpitude and the intellectual honesty to speak truth to power and expose the conscious decision-making that negatively frames the conversation about Israel and her neighbors.
Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah (MMAE) is proud to host Mark Lavie for its Brotherhood Breakfast Speaker Series on Sunday, January 18 at 10:00 AM. Admission is $5 for MMAE Brotherhood members and $10 for non-members.
