5 Kid-Friendly Events This Week

Reading is cool, stargazing is hot, outdoor music is in.

Whether you chose to stay cool indoors during the day or wait for the cooler temperatures of the evening to venture out, here are some family fun activities in Pikesville, Baltimore and Woodlawn.

1. Watch a free movie. Children ages 2-5 can enjoy at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Woodlawn Branch Library, 1811 Woodlawn Dr., Woodlawn. Call 410-887-1336 for the viewing schedule, or visit the branch's website.

2. Take in some cool reads. Toddlers and their siblings can hear some new and old stories at 10 a.m., Wednesday and Saturday during at , 1819 Reisterstown Road. There's no registration required.

3. Attend activities.  Kids ages 2 to 10 can meet from 4-5 p.m., Wednesday at the Jewish Community Center, 5700 Park Heights Ave., for fun and entertaining events. Cost is $4 per child; parents with a child get in free. For more info, call 410-542-4900, or visit the JCC website.

4. Enjoy stargazing. The Maryland Science Center Observatory, 601 Light St., Baltimore, gives you and your kids free access to view the moon, planets and stars, 5:30-9 p.m., Saturday. Other dates are Aug. 13, 20, and 27. Call ahead at 410-545-2999 to confirm that the observatory is open. 5. Listen to music outdoors. The New Romance, a 1980s tribute band, performs 6-9 p.m., Friday at Belvedere Square, located at York Road and East Belvedere Avenue in Baltimore.
