A department spokesperson told Patch that the cow had run away around 1 p.m. from Hidden Waters Farm in the 3200 block of Old Court Road.

Photos shared on social media captured officers on the ground, attempting to wrangle the animal, which appears to be lying on its side as officials hover above.

While authorities appeared to capture the cow, it ultimately got away, according to the department.

"When officers located the runaway suspect, it refused to cooperate and fled through the woods," the agency said in an X post.

The spokesperson said that "several officers assisted with returning the cow to its owner on I-695."
