Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball opens at Metro Centre at Owings Mills

On March 27, the Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball, located on several floors of the County Campus at Metro Centre at Owings Mills, was officially opened to the public. 

The museum displays the history of the Negro Leagues through photographs, graphic panels, artifacts and memorabilia of both Maryland and the U.S. Negro Leagues. The opening was attended by several former Negro League players, including Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, the only woman to ever pitch in the Negro Leagues.

The opening was marked with speeches by Community College of Baltimore County President Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis; Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz; Executive Director of the Museum Audrey Simmons; Curator Rayner “Ray” Banks and CCBC student-athlete DeSean Rabb. When talking about his planned professional baseball career and the opening of the museum, Rabb said “my father always said that before you know where you’re going, you have to understand the past.”
