FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Baltimore Hebrew Congregation (BHC) is extremely excited to announce that Cantor Ben Ellerin will join our congregation on July 1, 2018 as its new Cantor. Building on BHC’s strong cantorial tradition, we are eager to embrace Cantor Ellerin and his wife, Lily, as part of our community.

Cantor Ellerin currently serves Temple Israel of Northern Westchester in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. He was ordained at Reform Judaism’s Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. He studied at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music for both his undergraduate work and his Master’s degree in Choral Conducting. During his cantorial studies, Cantor Ellerin served as an intern at both Congregation Rodeph Shalom and Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City. At Park Avenue Synagogue, he served as Director of Choirs, where his original compositions were frequently commissioned and presented. Cantor Ellerin has led worship at congregations in Jerusalem and Ramat Hasharon, Israel and served as Cantor-in-Residence in Montreal, Canada.

“Cantor Ellerin brings to Baltimore an amazing mix of an inspiring voice, deep Jewish knowledge, and menschlichkeit (integrity and caring). We are all excited to have him join our community,” said Rabbi Andrew Busch. “There will be multiple opportunities to pray, learn, and volunteer with Cantor Ellerin. We know he will bring his own fantastic mix of musicality and intelligence, including his love of Judaism, teaching, and community to all segments of Baltimore Hebrew Congregation.”

BHC has evolved and modernized since our founding in 1830. BHC’s extensive search has selected a next Cantor who will add to our congregation’s depth and excitement, while bringing inspiration to the larger community. Cantor Ellerin is equally comfortable teaching B’nai Mitzvah students, serving at a Jewish camp, and leading choirs of all ages. We look forward to welcoming Cantor Ellerin and Lily, to Baltimore in July.
