Sinai and Carroll Hospitals Earn Breastfeeding Friendly Awards

Making sure employees who are breastfeeding feel supported leads to regional recognition.

Earning these awards reflects both institutions’ commitment to supporting breastfeeding employees by providing access to resources such as private lactation rooms, lactation consultants, support groups and flex time to pump.

“When we support new mothers, we have a happier and healthier workforce,” says Joe Quinn, senior vice president and chief HR officer for LifeBridge Health. “Mothers are able to achieve a work-life balance, and we are able to retain excellent team members.”

According to breastfeeding advocates, worksite support of employee programs is a “win-win” situation. Employers benefit through increased rates of retention, employee satisfaction and morale. The health benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby equate to decreased health care and insurance costs and a reduction in sick leave requests to care for an ill child.

“The businesses receiving these awards serve as role models for our region. We are so proud to honor them all,” says Dr. Dana Silver, past president of the Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition and physician at LifeBridge Health.
