The Sinai Rehabilitation Center is hosting a daylong workshop, “Motivational Interviewing: Enhancing Treatment Engagement for Patients with Chronic Pain,” to provide a general approach and specific strategies that include:

  • Identifying a patient’s readiness to follow treatment recommendations and pain management goals at all levels
  • Improving your rapport with patients
  • Showing patients how to make and keep positive lifestyle changes
  • Learning how to prevent or lessen a patient’s resistance to change
  • Increasing confidence to motivate patients

Mark P. Jensen, Ph.D., is the keynote speaker. He is a professor and the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has been studying chronic pain and helping individuals better manage chronic pain for more than 30 years. Dr. Jensen has published extensively on the topics of pain assessment and treatment.

This course is approved for seven continuing-education units by:
 Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners
(to include psychologists)
 Maryland Board of Examiners for Speech and
Language Pathologists

In addition, the following organizations are considering approval for
