The Park School Graduates Class of 2011
The Upper School principal, a longtime teacher, and 81 students all celebrate their final commencement ceremony at the private, independent day school.
This fall, Park School of Baltimore graduate Josh Kolodner of Mt. Washington heads to Richmond University in Virginia to study business.
And while he's there he might play club soccer. But he takes with him fond memories of lacrosse and soccer teams, and especially the close relationships he has with students and teachers at Park.
"I'll definitely miss our coach, Lucky Mallonee," Kolodner said. "The way he coaches the team ... we learned a lot."

The 81 members of the Class of 2011 graduated during a ceremony Monday at the private school, located in the hills of Brooklandville.
For some, including Autumn Cohen, commencement was the culmination of many years spent at the school.

"I will definitely miss Park as a whole—it's been my home for 12 years," she said. "It's been a really great experience and a huge part of my life."
This fall, Cohen will attend the University of Delaware.
To Emma Gross, who was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper The Postscript, leaving Park means leaving a "community of extremely intelligent, positive and thoughtful teachers."
This fall, she will attend Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, a small liberal arts school. So far, she's not certain of her course of study. "I'm not ready to give up any of the subjects I studied in school," she said.
Jesse Orr has some ideas of the course of study he might settle on at the University of Chicago. "Either political science, international relations, economics or history," he said.
When it comes to Park, he said he'll miss most "the sense of community. I can go to almost any teacher and ask them any questions."
For Upper School Principal Michael McGill, this is also his final graduation. After 13 years at Park, he has taken a job in Seattle, where he will be head of school for The Northwest School.
He spoke of the special relationships of "mutual trust" between students and teachers at Park.
He honored John Roemer, a teacher who is retiring after nearly 30 years at the school; congratulated the school's Mock Trial team for its state title; its athletic teams; and mentioned this year's student/faculty debate, in which the students won—for only the second time in the school's history.
John Wyda, president of the school's Board of Trustees, wished the class members good luck on their journeys after Park.
"I've watched your class grow and develop into the special group of young people you have become. I have enjoyed every minute of it," he said.
"Mostly I've loved walking the hallways and feeling the ever-present energy and warmth that pervades this special community of learners. ... The world has plenty of challenges. But today is an optimistic day. Sustain that feeling."
