MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Brooke Eby, a Potomac native who became a nationally recognized advocate for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, died Thursday. She was 37.
Eby's death was announced by the ALS Network.
A graduate of Winston Churchill High School, Eby gained followers across the nation after she was diagnosed with ALS at 33 and opted to use her voice to shed light on the impact of the progressive neuromuscular disorder, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Eby shared her day-to-day life with hundreds of thousands of individuals across TikTok and Instagram without filtering her experiences. She did, however, do it with a touch of humor.

The last video posted on Eby's account was a promotion for new adaptive pants. "Anyone who knew me before the Lou, knows that I hated jeans unless they were like a pajama jean," she says in a voiceover.
"She could explain a devastating reality, challenge a misconception, and make people laugh, sometimes all in the same post," the ALS Network wrote in its announcement.
"Through that storytelling, Brooke helped bring ALS to people who previously knew little about the disease. She turned awareness into understanding and understanding into action."
She founded the online community ALStogether, which went on to partner with the ALS Network earlier this year. In June, Eby was presented with the Dean and Kathleen Rasmussen Advocate of the Year Award for her leadership and impact on the ALS community.
