1. Hall Aquatic Center Reopening Pushed To December After Pool Plaster Problems Discovered (thebaynet.com) — Hall Aquatic Center in Prince Frederick will now stay closed until at least December 2026 after contractors discovered serious problems with the competition pool's plaster during roof and HVAC renovations. County parks officials and Calvert County Public Schools are working on alternate arrangements for student-athletes and will share updated schedules and reopening details with families as plans are finalized.
2. Approximately 500,000 Gallons of Sewerage Overflow Reported in Prince Frederick (smnewsnet.com) — Prince Frederick residents are being urged to avoid contact with Mill Creek after about 500,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled from a sewer line near 204 Prince Frederick Blvd. County crews have stabilized the site and disinfected the area, but health officials advise staying out of affected waters through Oct. 8 while long-term repairs and monitoring continue.
3. Calvert Sells $75.9M in Bonds at 4.66% Interest (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Calvert County just sold $75.9 million in bonds to fund school upgrades, road work, and water and sewer projects, including the Prince Frederick Loop Road and a new West Prince Frederick storage tank. Thanks to the county's AAA credit rating, borrowing costs stay lower, which can help limit the long-term tax impact of these major improvements.
4. Baltimore County man sentenced for fatal crash (somdnews.com) — Drivers in Prince Frederick may remember last December's deadly three-vehicle crash on Route 2/4, which began when a motorist fled a traffic stop over a broken brake light. That Pikesville man has now been sentenced to 12 years in prison for negligent manslaughter and related charges, with additional supervised probation once he's released.
5. Police: Loaded AK-47 Found In Trunk, Stolen Pistol In Man's Pocket In Prince Frederick (thebaynet.com) — A recent police response to a dispute at the SpringHill Suites in Prince Frederick led deputies to arrest a Lexington Park man after they allegedly found a loaded AK-47 in a trunk and a stolen pistol in his pocket. The 27-year-old faces six firearm-related charges, was initially held without bond, and now awaits an Oct. 7 preliminary hearing in Calvert District Court.
