Arrest Made in One of Two New Year's Day Shootings

A man has been charged with first-degree murder in a New Year's Day shooting, authorities said.

Prince George's County police have made an arrest in one of two homicides that happened on Wednesday, the first of 2014, according to the department's blog.

D'Juan Renay Hunter, 38, of the 2700 block of Shipley Terrace in Southeast Washington, faces charges of first-degree murder and related charges in the death of Raymond Quattlebaum, 52, of the 9100 block of Goldfield Place in Clinton. Quattlebaum was engaged to Hunter's mother.

Patrol officers were called to the 9100 block of Goldfield Place at about 9 p.m. on New Year's Day on the report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found Quattlebaum suffering from apparent gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead on the scene, the department's blog says.

Authorities believe Hunter went to the home on Goldfield Place to visit family. While there, Hunter reportedly confronted Quattlebaum and shot him during the incident. After the shooting, Hunter ran from the home, but was found and arrested Thursday morning in Bowie.

The other homicide occurred sometime before 4:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive in New Carrollton, the department says. Police found a 26-year-old man suffering from fatal gunshot wounds at an apartment complex.

Late Wednesday, the department posted a Twitter message saying the homicide was being investigated as a domestic-related attack, says the Washington Post. A police spokeswoman said no one was in custody.
