Bites Nearby: Tiffin
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Riverdale Park-University Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

If you get a hankering for some Indian food, Tiffin is right down Route 193 in Langley Park.
Tiffin offers classic Indian dishes with some South Indian speciality dishes. The restaurant is affiliated with Udapi Palace, an all-vegetarian restaurant, therefore the two have separate kitchens. So even vegans can enjoy a meal and not feel squeamish about where their vegetarian meal is cooked.
A few weeks ago, I decided to swing by the restaurant and get my favorite dishes saag paneer, a spiced spinach and cheese also known as palak panner and murgh makhani, or butter chicken (the chicken is cooked in a spiced tomato cream sauce). I also got an order of naan, or bread cooked in a clay over known as a tandoor.

Even though I got my food with a mild heat, there was a spicy undertone to it and it was even better the next day as leftovers.
If you go, I suggest you go with a larger group and eat family style by sharing dishes.

Order a dosai, a thin crepe filled with rice and lentils, served with sambar (or a spiced soup) with coconut chutney. Try the palak paneer and baigan bhartha, or an eggplant dish, and chicken makhni as entrees. If you want to try something completely different try Kashmiri Rogan Josh or Goat Curry. Levels of heat vary, you can ask for mild, medium or hot, although vindaloos are usually the spiciest and koftas and makhnis are the mildest.
Prices: Starting at $4 appetizers to a $21 shrimp entree.
