Northwestern High Students Hope to Hold Peaceful Counter-Protest
The principal and teachers met with students Thursday morning.

Update, 10:21 p.m.: It sounds like students from the high school at the center of to Hyattsville will not be allowed to demonstrate peacefully outdoors.
According to students in the Facebook group, Northwestern Students Against Hate, students can create positive picket signs to place along the entrance of the school along Adelphi Road; however, school administrators don't want students to gather outdoors or disrupt the school day.
None of the students signs however will focus on the Kansas-based church known for it's anti-homosexual stance. Instead, they will be focused on positive messages about the Northwestern Wildcats.

Some students are planning to wear school-spirited clothing or clothing with positive messages. Teachers will be posting positive messages on post-its throughout their classrooms, and some students hope to gather in front of the school before the school day begins.
One student posted that they hope the day will shed a positive light on the school and bring about a sense of awareness.

Original Post, 3:51 p.m.: Students from Northwestern High School are hoping to hold a peaceful counter-protest Tuesday when in the morning.
According to the Northwestern Students Against Hate Facebook page, students met with the school's principal Jerome Thomas and teachers Thursday morning to discuss how they will react to the anti-gay church group's notorious chanting.
Lynn McCawley, a spokeswoman with Prince George's County Public Schools, said media was not invited to the meeting.
However, according to several posts on Patch, the counter-protest of Westboro Church event page and the students' group, Northwestern is gearing up to protest peacefully with funny signs, songs and a possible fundraiser for the schools PTA or the school's Gay-Straight Alliance.
