Parkdale's Senior Prom To Be Held Friday at a D.C. Marriott

It's be a night of romance, set in Paris, France — but played out at the JW Marriott in D.C., where Parkdale's seniors will celebrate their Moulin Rouge-themed prom Friday night.

Senior Class Advisors Neville Adams and Shasha Lowe have helped the senior class plan their prom since their sophomore year.

It's the second one that I’m planning," Adams said. "This class has been extremely involved and they'll be a good turnout."

Tickets will cost students $95 per individual or $180 per couple, in addition to the costs related to tuxedos and dresses, shoes, accessories, corsages, boutineers, the limos, etc.

However, the economy hasn't seemed to deter students from attending - as Adams expects nearly 400 people to attend the event.

"It's because it’s a tradition – it’s a rite of passage," he said, although he said the school has received more requests for financial help, students have been making payments later.

The school even helped set up a payment plan starting in January to help parents and students make their payments for prom over a period of time.

"A lot of students are paying for prom themselves," Adams added.

 The senior class council did hold various fundraisers to offsets costs including selling frozen desserts and hosting a skate party in the school's gym.
