School Board May Exclude Student Member from Closed Sessions
Critics question whether the board has the authority to exclude one of its members from official proceedings.

The Prince George’s County Board of Education is considering barring its student member from attending executive sessions, The Washington Post reports.
Those who support the move say there are certain types of information the student shouldn’t have access to, while others question whether the board has the authority to exclude one of its members from official proceedings.
Shabnam Ahmed, a rising senior at Bowie High School, will succeed the incumbent student member in August. Her older sister, Raaheela Ahmed, is challenging the current board chairman in the fall, making the matter all the more politically sensitive.
