1 Killed, 2 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash On I-270 North: Police
A 35-year-old woman was killed and two men injured in an early morning crash Sunday on I-270 North in Montgomery County.
ROCKVILLE, MD — A 35-year-old woman was killed and two men were injured early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on I-270 North in Montgomery County, according to a release from the Maryland State Police.
Troopers responded around 3:35 a.m., in following multiple reports of two separate but related crashes on northbound I-270 south of Montrose Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Tesla Model S crashed into the rear of a 2007 Toyota Sienna before both cars came to a stop on I-270 North.

A 2015 Chevrolet Cruze that was also traveling north on I-270 came upon the stopped vehicles and attempted to swerve out of the way, but struck the rear of the Toyota, according to police.
Sandra Lorena Morales De Arevala, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was declared dead on the scene, according to police. Two male passengers from the same car were taken to Inova Trauma Center to be treated for their injuries.

Thabiso Mandela Mokuena, 24, who was the driver of the Tesla, was taken into custody under suspicion of impaired driving, according to the release.
MSP transported Mokuena to the Rockville Barrack before releasing him after consulting with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, according to police.
The state's attorney will review the case once MSP has completed its investigation to determine if charges will be filed.
