2 Teens Die In Fiery Hit-And-Run Crash On I-270 Near Rockville

Maryland State Police identified two people killed Friday morning in a three-car crash that closed portions of Interstate 270.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Two teenagers died Friday in a fiery hit-and-run crash on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County, authorities said.

Montgomery County authorities and Maryland State Police responded to northbound I-270 near Falls Road shortly before 5 a.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle crash.

According to state police, a Toyota RAV4 and BMW convertible were traveling north on I-270 when the BMW struck the rear of the Toyota and fled the scene. Police said the Toyota was rear-ended a second time by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The Toyota was on fire when first responders arrived. The driver escaped the fire while two passengers were trapped in the car and died at the scene, authorities said.

State police identified the two victims as Luis Isaac Bran, 17, of Gaithersburg, and Rebeca Gabriela Vasquez Moreno, 18, from El Salvador. The driver — identified as Esperanza Del Carmen Vasquez De Bran, 50, also of Gaithersburg — was taken by ambulance to Suburban Hospital for treatment. Police said Esperanza Bran is Luis Bran’s mother and Moreno’s aunt.

The driver of the Ford refused medical treatment at the scene.

The BMW was located abandoned about a half-mile north of the crash site, police said. Investigators are working to identify the driver of the BMW.

The crash prompted officials to close all main northbound lanes of I-270 for approximately six hours. The interstate was cleared shortly before 11:30 a.m.
