Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Shadow, King, Kevin, Shaka, Kane

Plenty of adorable animals are up for adoption in Montgomery County. This week, we're featuring Shadow, King, Kevin, Shaka, and Kane.

ROCKVILLE, MD —For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at Montgomery County's adoption center. The facility houses dozens of cats, dogs, and other adorable critters. And all of them need a furever home.

Here, we've rounded up a list of five adoptable pets for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, we're featuring Shadow, King, Kevin, Shaka, and Kane.

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: Shadow is a gal that's the perfect mix. She's been around the block a few times and knows how to live politely in a home, but she's still young enough to walk around the block a few more times! Shadow lived with another dog in her first home, so she could live with another dog if they're the right fit. She may also be able to live with cats. She's a very nice girl and could live with children in the home as long as they were respectful of an old gal's needs to nap and relax :)

Name: King - ID#A435335
Sex, Breed: Neutered male, brindle and white American Pit Bull Terrier mix.
Age: Approx. 10 years old.
Arrived at shelter: Feb. 15, 2019

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: King is a super-sweet, well-mannered boy. He is laid back, but still has plenty of energy for a nice walk. He is affectionate and easy-going, and will be a wonderful companion for an individual or family. He is very house-trained which is no small feat here at the shelter!

He seems to get along with some other calm dogs (properly introduced, of course!). He did well on our cat test here at the shelter, so may do well with cats in the home, with a proper, slow introduction.

King can be a bit cautious at first with new people, and is a little uncomfortable with a lot of handling until he gets to know you, for that reason our behaviorists are recommending he go to a home with older kids or adults only.

Name: *Kevin - ID#A451906
Sex, Breed: Neutered male, black Domestic Shorthair.
Age: Approx. 4 years old.
Arrived at shelter: June 19, 2019

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: Kevin is a big boy who has had a tough go of it. He can be shy at first, but will come running up for pets once he's comfortable (he may just get spooked by loud noises or sudden movements). He's got some medical issues, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to live comfortably in a home and be a loved part of a family. Kevin has lived with other cats in the past and would likely be okay with a slow introduction to other mellow cats in your household!

Name: Shaka - ID#A437009
Sex, Breed: Neutered male, brindle Cane Corso.
Age: Approx. 2 years and 5 months old.
Arrived at shelter: July 09, 2019

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: Shaka is a very friendly guy with a big heart! He is very smart and knows how to sit and lay down. He loves to run around and greet people. Shaka is a beautiful dog with a lot of love to give!

Name: Kane - ID#A443119
Sex, Breed: Neutered male, gray American Pit Bull Terrier.
Age: Approx. 1 year and 10 months old.
Arrived at shelter: Aug. 22, 2019

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: Kane is a shy boy that misses having a family and home of his own. He's a young guy that would benefit from confidence-boosting obedience classes. Because he can be a bit shy, Kane would do best in a home with children that are familiar with dogs or children that are older.
