Weather forecast:
1. Major Red Line Shutdown Planned This Summer (mocoshow.com) — Rockville commuters face major changes this summer as Red Line service shuts down between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights from July 6 to Sept. 6, with free shuttles and new bus-only lanes on Rockville Pike/MD 355. Riders can also use MARC from Rockville to reach Union Station while Metro upgrades tracks, platforms, and builds a new Bethesda station entrance for the future Purple Line.
2. Weekend Recap: RG Tashkent World Cup, MAG Osijek World Cup, Acro Puurs World Cup/FIAC • USA Gymnastics (usagym.org) — Two Rockville athletes, Roni Azerrad and Layla DeVaul of Xtreme Acro, helped their women’s group reach the final and place fifth at a major international acrobatics meet in Belgium. They were part of a broader U.S. delegation that brought home 11 medals across World Cup and junior competitions, showcasing American strength in rhythmic, artistic, and acrobatic gymnastics.
3. Maryland Task Force Cracks Down on Illegal Car Rallies, Makes Arrests and Seizes Firearms (wfmd.com) — Law enforcement based out of Rockville helped coordinate a statewide task force that broke up large, illegal car rallies across Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard counties late Friday into Saturday. Officers shut down gatherings of up to 300 people, arrested two adults on firearm and resisting charges, and detained two armed juveniles, saying the operation prevented more dangerous roadway takeovers.
4. Conservative nonprofit files complaint against Maryland school district alleging violation of SCOTUS ruling (wmar2news.com) — Rockville-based Montgomery County Public Schools is facing a new federal complaint from a conservative legal group over its gender identity guidance, accusing the district of violating parents’ constitutional rights. The challenge targets how MCPS handles student name, pronoun, and record changes without notifying parents, and leans on a recent Supreme Court ruling. MCPS has not yet responded publicly, leaving Rockville families watching closely.
