MoCo First Responders Help Fawn, 'Almost' Rescue Bird

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — First responders were called to two animal rescues this week in the Potomac area, the first of which involved a baby deer.

David Pazos, an assistant chief with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, reported Monday that emergency personnel were called to the 8100 block of Coach Street after a fawn was stuck in a window well.

Photos shared from the scene showed officials with Fire Station 30 successfully freeing the deer before it quickly ran away. "The fawn was rescued and ran for dear life into the woods," reads a post.

Then, on Tuesday, authorities were called to help a Potomac resident who reported "a unique bird in tree" that was believed to belong to someone.

Officials attempted to lure the colorful bird with birdseed before it suddenly opted to land right on top of them.

"A 6y/o on scene affectionately named it 'Peckers,'" MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said in a post.

Personnel with Montgomery County Animal Control later arrived on the scene to assist and take the bird into their care.
