MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Catherine Hoggle, the mother of two children missing since 2014, is looking to plead not criminally responsible after being indicted on murder charges for their disappearance, according to a report.
Public defenders representing Hoggle said in a new filing that their client was not criminally responsible when 2-year-old Jacob and 3-year-old Sarah disappeared in 2014, WTOP News reported.
Hoggle was hit with the two murder charges in August 2025, shortly after being released from a psychiatric facility the month prior. A judge declared her competent to stand trial the following December.
Hoggle was placed in the psychiatric facility after initially being found incompetent to stand trial on counts of child neglect, obstruction and murder when the case first emerged.
