ROCKVILLE, MD — August may have just started but for many parents and guardians, the month marks a mental shift to the new school year — and the new calendar approved back in May.
An unusually severe winter forced the Montgomery County Public Schools system to go through rounds of scheduling adjustments to make up for snow days during the 2025-2026 school year.

In an effort to prevent similar issues in the upcoming 2026-2027 term, the district revised the calendar and built in six days to account for possible inclement weather.
Those dates include: April 22, May 17 and June 14-17.
As the first day of school on Aug. 24 draws near, Patch has compiled a list of important dates for the upcoming school year.
