ROCKVILLE, MD — An open house will be held by the Rockville City Police Department this month, giving residents an inside peek at one of its stations.

The family-friendly event will be held at the 2 W. Montgomery Ave. station on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is not required.

Not only will attendees be able to tour the station and check out marked police vehicles, but they'll also be given the chance to meet officers assigned to the RCPD motorcycle unit.

Other events include K-9 demonstrations, interactive displays, a community services booth with free giveaways, and photo opportunities with officers and vehicles.

"Most people meet us on what may be one of the hardest days of their lives," Chief Jason West said in a statement. "An open house lets residents come to us on a different kind of day, ask questions, see how we work and get to know the officers serving their neighborhoods."

"The more residents understand about this department, the better we are able to serve them," he said.

Residents interested in attending the open house will find parking available at nearby city garages and free parking near City Hall, at 111 Maryland Ave.

A rain date is scheduled for Oct. 3. The same hours will apply.
