ROCKVILLE, MD — A Gaithersburg man was identified Monday in the fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend near a Rockville sports bar.
Montgomery County Police said 33-year-old Nicholas Njuki suffered a deadly gunshot wound moments after leaving Quincy's Potomac Bar & Grille, off the 1000 block of Seven Locks Road.
Authorities were alerted to the parking lot shooting Sunday just before 2 a.m.
Early findings released by investigators detailed that Njuki had left the establishment with another person after being involved in a confrontation with an unidentified man.
However, while the pair left and drove away from the sports bar together, Njuki encountered the man a second time near the intersection of Fortune Terrace and Northside Park Boulevard.
At some point, police said Njuki exited the vehicle he was in and was subsequently shot by the man.
The person who had been with Njuki drove away from the scene after the gunman fired a shot at them. That individual later called the police.
The gunman, who also drove away from the scene, has not been identified.
An investigation into the case remains ongoing.
