1. Rockville Creates Service Dog Advocacy Task Force (moderatelymoco.com) — Rockville has launched a new Service Dog Advocacy Task Force under the city's Human Rights Commission to hear directly from service dog users, identify local challenges, and recommend ways the city can better support these teams. Membership and meeting details are still being finalized, but residents can track progress through commission agendas and reports on the City of Rockville website.
2. P-funk praises Eric's ID Law, Moore names new judges, more in political notes (marylandmatters.org) — Rockville residents are getting new local judges and a chance to shape county policing policy, as Gov. Wes Moore appoints several Montgomery County judges with Rockville ties and the council seeks applicants for its Advisory Commission on Policing. The piece also highlights Eric's ID Law, which adds butterfly disability indicators to licenses and may inspire similar efforts in D.C. and beyond.
3. Witness Gets Plate, Police Find Driver After Deadly Aspen Hill Hit-Run Crash (dailyvoice.com) — A Rockville resident, Saijuan Chen, died after being struck by a Jeep while crossing Arctic Avenue in Aspen Hill, and police have already located the vehicle and driver thanks to a witness who captured the license plate. Montgomery County's Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating and has not yet announced charges, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives by phone.
4. Rose Strickman Wins the 2026 WSFA Small Press Award (file770.com) — A major regional science fiction award was just presented at Capclave, the annual SF/F convention held at the Rockville Hilton & Executive Meeting Center. While the story mainly celebrates winner Rose Strickman and other finalists, it also highlights Rockville's role as a recurring host site, bringing genre fans, writers, and small-press publishers into the city each year.
