ROCKVILLE, MD — An 83-year-old Silver Spring man died over the weekend after suffering fatal injuries in a pedestrian crash that took place at a Rockville gas station, police said.
The incident occurred Friday at the FreeState gas station in the 500 block of Hungerford Road. Both Rockville City Police and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the case shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Montgomery County Police said in a Sunday release that Charles S. Lazar was hospitalized Friday morning after being hit by the driver of a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado.
He died Saturday as his condition deteriorated overnight, officials said.
Preliminary findings released by investigators indicate the collision unfolded as the pickup truck was pulling away from a fuel pump, just as Lazar was walking back to his parked car.
Police said the truck driver showed no signs of impairment and remained on the scene.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (240) 773-6620.
