Apply To Be Montgomery County's Inspector General By April 30

ROCKVILLE, MD — The position of Inspector General for Montgomery County is up for grabs.

The Inspector General leads the independent Office of the Inspector General and is responsible for improving the productivity and effectiveness of the county government.

"The Inspector General provides the County Council and the County Executive with the products required – in terms of independent audit, investigative, and inspection reports – to increase legal, fiscal, and ethical accountability; to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse; and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of County programs and operations," county officials said in a statement. "In developing recommendations, the Inspector General may: (a) conduct investigations, budgetary analyses, and financial, management, or performance audits and similar reviews; and (b) seek assistance from any other government agency or private party or undertake any project jointly with any other governmental agency or private body."

Applications will be reviewed by the five-member Inspector General Nominating Panel. The panel will then forward the names of three qualified candidates to the Council. Each of these candidates will then be required to fill out a financial disclosure statement.

The Inspector General, who is appointed by the County Council, can serve up to two four-year terms. At this time, the Council intends to appoint an Inspector General for the remainder of the term, which expires on June 30, 2021. The Inspector General has a salary ranging from $127,565 to $178,069.
